I don't think anyone is saying it's ok. I think we're just saying in the greater scheme of things, it's fairly irrelevant.
why, you might ask is this irrelevant when trent lott made his statement?
1. trent lott said the world would have been a better place if a segregationist had been president. (and even then, it's my understanding he was made party whip AFTER his comments).
2. Reid has a history of working on behalf of minorities. Shouldn't they be the ones ticked off rather than the white guys in the RNC? (and no, steele doesn't count)
yes, his verbiage was 1955... and no, it isn't "acceptable" and i wouldn't be particularly sorry if a better replacement was put in place. BUT the right has spent so much time demanding the ouster of Reid and Pelosi that this seems too disingenuous for words.
So no... I doubt any dems will listen to it... with good reason.
