Your interpretation is not supported by scripture. The Genesis creation account is abundantly clear that it was with reference to literal light.
Now the earth was formless and desolate, and there was darkness upon the surface of the watery deep, and God’s active force was moving about over the surface of the waters.
And God said: “Let there be light.” Then there was light.
FYI: The sun and the moon are not the only sources of light. Those and the other luminaries (the stars) were created for the benefit of mankind. Jehovah God, the Creator, made it clear he had the ability to produce light prior to his creation of the luminaries.
