Where exactly is he lying? The President's been clear since before he was elected that he wants energy prices to skyrocket. Officials in his administration have confirmed and reinforced this.

It's incredibly stupid. But that's one of his stated policy objectives. He thinks higher prices creates incentive for "alternative" energy sources.

Well Documented this is Dr. Chu plan. Besides saying " he has ‘no intention of trying to lower the price of oil or the price of gasoline" he says that is not even part of his job description. What to you expect from a person that doesn't even own a car.

In 2008, he stated, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe” (which are routinely above $8 per gallon). And earlier this year, when asked whether it’s his goal to lower gas prices, Chu said, “No, the overall goal is to decrease our dependency on oil, to build and strengthen our economy.”
