Yes, it is illegal to draw or wear a swastika or give a Hitler salute here in Germany. Germans gave up their right to freedom of speech in the name of political correctness, which is why we shouldn't care what their opinions are on anything.
While there are some restrictions it is not generally forbidden to talk in favor of Hitler and the Third Reich. Germans have freedom of speech but they don´t notice it. Most are quite unpolitical.
Dafuq is "generally forbidden" mean. You're saying they limit free speech and are only entitled to a government approved history and manner of behaving.
The restrictions:
- No Hitler salute (unless its Ave Cesar, Ave Cesar is fine in Germany)
- No NS symbols (unless its documentary or not visible in the public. More precise: your swastika flag may not bee seen from outside the open door or the windows)
- No Holocaust denial
- No incitement to violence of any kind
Special offer:
If you want your documentary to be recognized as such, you need to mention somewhere how bad Hitler and the Third Reich were.
However, people are free to express their love for Hitler and the Third Reich anyhow but by the mentioned points. There is no law prohibiting that.
