Is that a sign of upcoming sovereignty? Germany will not accept new sanctions if European companies would have disadvantages. A new package of imperialist sanctions passed by the Senate and delivered to Trump for approval has prompted Russia to reduce the number of US diplomats, already. Although Gabriel supports "political pressure" on Russia because it interrupted Washington´s takeover of Ukraine by armed nazi gangs, he fears the sanctions could harm German and other European companies and criticizes Washington´s actual interests behind the sanctions.

FM Gabriel:
"We will under no circumstances accept an extraterritorial application of these US sanctions against European companies.”
“Sanction policy is neither a suitable nor an adequate instrument to advance the interests of national exports and the domestic energy sector.”

"If our concerns are not taken into account sufficiently, we stand ready to act appropriately within a matter of days. 'America First' cannot mean that Europe's interests come last," EU chief executive Jean-Claude Juncker said,

When the target country powerful, their track record of changing countries’ behavior is not particularly good. “A very small fraction of those end in success,” Mr. Hufbauer said.
To Punish Putin, Economic Sanctions Are Unlikely to Do the Trick

Catch this. The new Cold War is in full swing. Putin is pissed and I don't blame him. The Congress and the Senate are FUBAR'D in their brains to come up with this new sanctions bill.

I just put up a thread about it.

Russia to seize two U.S. properties and orders hundreds of American embassy staff home from Moscow in retaliation for new sanctions bill
  • Russia's Foreign Ministry on Friday ordered a reduction in the number of U.S. diplomats in Russia in response to new American sanctions
  • One source told a Russian news agency 'hundreds' would be sent home
  • The Senate approved a new package of stiff financial sanctions Friday against Russia, Iran and North Korea and sent it to President Trump to sign
  • The legislation is aimed at punishing Moscow for interfering in the 2016 presidential election and for its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria
  • Russia reacted by ordering the U.S. to cut its embassy staff down to 455
  • It also plans to seize a U.S. retreat outside Moscow and a diplomatic warehouse

Oh, YES! I'm very proud of Russia. Speaking about seizing property: Obama seized Russian diplomatic property in USA just before leaving the office.

How is that: to seize property which was assigned by a bilateral intergovernmental ratified document, and to give it back they follow the principle, ‘Mine is mine, and yours will be shared,’” Lavrov said.

The foreign minister added he hopes that the Trump administration has people with logic who understand that their predecessors in the Obama administration decided to seize the Russian property, as well as expel 35 Russian diplomats, in “a state of agony.”

According to Lavrov, the Obama-led authorities did not know “how else they could ruin [Moscow’s] relations with Washington in such a way that the Trump administration would fail to restore them.”
Lavrov: Any US conditions for return of Russian diplomatic property would be ‘daylight robbery’
