Gee, how brilliant. The weird part is I have read that post again, and then double checked it, and I do not see where I said the colonists did not have weapons. The Revolutionary War started when the British Army marched into Concorde to confiscate the guns of the colonists on 18 April 1775.

Because of....how to put this....."diversity". Other "developed" countries are pretty homogenous so the poor cant whine and blame every problem on racism (aka ******) AND they probably dont have politicians that suck votes out of a group they dont care about as much as democrats do to blacks (funny how all the major crime rates are in well non white areas).....but hey those countries have no shot of their govenment being overthrown (that's not a complimant, btw)

Wow.. and the other problem with "modern" conservatives. Rather than finding a philosophy that keeps up with the times, they allow racism to animate their movement like a zombie...

There are lot of reasons why Germany has a much lower crime rate than we do... and none of them have to do with the racist spew you just said. (Look up Guest Workers, and you'll see the Germans have a lot of the racial issues we have.)

First, the Germans have a very well developed social welfare state. They've had social security and universal health coverage since the 19th century and Otto von Bismarck. The notion that 'We can't take care of our poor, we need to give tax cuts to rich assholes" is something even Angela Merkel wouldn't say aloud.

Second, they treat drug abuse as a medical issue and not a criminal one. This is very important, because if something has been destructive, it is the stupidity of taking poor pot smokers, tossing them into a prison with rapists and murderers, and wondering why something truly sociopathic comes out as a result. But while we have a Prison-Industrial Complex that needs to lock up 2 million Americans and STILL have the highest crime rate in the world, the Germans only need to lock up 78,000 people.

Third, while Germans do allow private gun ownership, they actually treat it as a privilage and not a "right". Which means you have to prove you deserve to have a gun and can be trusted, as opposed to a guy who thinks he's a Comic Book Super-villian going to the Bass Pro Shoppe and buying an arsenal.

Now, there are cultural differences. Germany is a very disciplined society, to start with.

But clearly maybe we should look at some of the things they are doing right instead of just dismissing them as "European Socialists".
