I'm no big fan of Merkel, and hope her center-right CDU will be diselected, but I sure don't want the far-right AfD anywhere near a good result
So, who do you want to win the race? The Social Democrats?
I wouldn't mind a Green-Social Democrat coalition. But that's very unlikely, considering the polls.
So I guess the only realistic option excluding the CDU at the moment would be a Green-Social Democrats-Free Democrats (the latter are moderate libertarians) coalition ...
The far-left Linke is totally nutty on foreign policy, although I like their ideas on social policies... but it's unlikely Social Dems and Greens will talk with them, as long as the Linke still wants to leave NATO asap. Looks like Putin's tyranny and old stalinists who haven't realized during the past 30 years that Russia ain't no socialism anymore, are more important for the Linke than working poor and unemployed at home.
Okay, I see. So, you dont want the current political force that has been in charge of Germany for 2 decades to remain in power.
So, what changes do you expect from a new coalition, whatever it will be, to carry out?
Hopefully some bold steps to support the transformation of our economy to modern, climate friendly production and innovations, and an end to the austerity dogma (it has been weakened due to the Covid pandemic already, though) ... it's time for a large investment program, imo.
Much of the infrastructure, public schools and so on is in a really bad state, because it has been neglected because of the idea of saving money. I'm not saying austerity was all bad from the start, but at any rate, now it's time for the government to take some money in its hands.
It's time to focus on the socially weaker parts of the people again, and while doing so, investing in "green" projects. Two birds with one stone.
Greens and center-left SPD could certainly do that, but maybe even the moderately libertarian FDP could ideally be a nice addition to such a coalition ... they could take care the left-leaning parties don't go too far, but do their thing in a manner that doesn't unneccarily burden the economy, and as far as I can see, they also have good ideas when it comes to improving the "digital" infrastructure, like internet access and improving the work in the administration, schools and so on by using modern computer-based technologies (really, the administration is lagging way behind ... they mostly still work like 20 years ago, very few use of the means the internet provides).
I'm not saying the center-right CDU/CSU has been all bad, but the party is really tired after 16 years in the government, their candidate doesn't convince me and in general, that party has no vision, all Merkel has been doing is reacting on events. That quite a few of their ministers and MPs have been found to abuse the Covid crisis for personal gains didn't make it better. In another coalition with a left-leaning party as junior partner, they'd hit the breaks all the time.
