Georgia Seniors Told They Can't Pray Before Meals

The Christian majority is sometimes like white males. They can be blind to the advantages their status has given them.

So, your feelings are based in resentment and jealousy then? What advantages do I have over you because I'm a christian?
No, my feelings are not based on resentment and jealousy. I have nothing to envy from Christians. I wouldn't want to be one anymore that I'd like to be a white male, regardless of the advantages.

My feelings are based on what is right and fair to all people.

So, it's 'right and fair' to ban all prayer?

no rush to tell me what the bible says about where to pray? why am i not surprised by that....i bet half of the people on here claiming to be christian have no real clue what the bible says.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you..” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-1

they are merely "giving thanks"....

I know the Bible quite well....
Group prayer is more than just "merely giving thanks". It's purpose is also to reinforce communal bonds. That's fine in a church or home or even in public when it doesn't disturb the peace, but it has no place at a senior center where the food is provided by the government and there may be non Christians present or even Christians who do not approve of this sort of thing.

It's like the smoking issue. When a person's right to smoke or have a religious demonstration impinges on other people's right to breathe clean air or have seperation of church and state then you have conflict.

Except that this was not a government funtion, it was at a private senior center.
The event was paid for by taxpayer money.

Part of the food was, period. So, people who receive welfare should not be allowed to practice religion since part of their well being is tax payer funded?

You're not even worth debating since your only defense is to twist my words.

my insulting comment...half the so called christians are ignorant of the bible.....o please....do you read the hatefulled posts they make and try to defend with the bible.....god hates queers due to the bible....blah blah blah...if i were you....i would be more worried about your own ilk than pagans

o and i never called you a hateful christian now did i? dont put words in my posts that are not there.

you have taken this as directed to you...that is your choice....i directed it at the ignorant bible thumpers....

again it does not matter what you are called...it matters what you answer to.

Stopping some old people from saying grace before a meal because it is subsidized by federal money is fucking ridiculous.

Maybe we should slap a fucking lawsuit on Obama's ass every time he says "God Bless America"

I think we should make them all carry the Koran if they take money from that Kenyan. We all know he is trying to make us all african muslim socialists marxists.

Why? The government is not establishing anything but food. The People made a free choice, one you don't like. Until our Constitution says we are protected from not being offended, too bad for you (and me). I'm OK with that.

Good news folks!,.... The decision has been reversed!,.. the seniors can return to exercising their 1st amendment rights per the dept. Of human resources!! Chalk one up for common sense and freedom OF religion!!

i find it amusing you deny the christian hate that is shown on this board.

Post Number 139, I guess you missed it:

What's the answer Bones? Why don't you educate those of us that 'use the Bible to hate'? And while you're at it, tell me how I personally use the 'Bible to hate' in my life since you obviously know me so well? What an insulting comment to make when you have no personal knowledge to even back it up. Your narrow minded view is disappointing.

Post Number 144, you missed this too.

Sorry Bones, but I see more hate coming from the other side. Show me where there has been Christian hate on here? You lumped all Christians together with your statements above. I don't deny that there are some, but certainly not the majority.

It seems we disagree on what amount of control the government should have over this event considering they do not provide the venue, only the food. Just curious, if this event was being held at a town hall, would you still feel a group prayer was appropriate?
