It's the part of our history we don't like to talk about. I mean, we have come a long way since the racist cowboy movies of the 1950's and the servile black people in movies like "Gone with the Wind".
Iām perfectly okay with discussing the history of racism and discrimination in this country. I and a lot of others like me just donāt agree that itās what the country was founded or built on and we donāt want that shit taught to our children.
We aren't going to get past the shittier part of our history unless we talk about it openly.
By that you mean: āLook how evil white people are.ā
Well, since no one has suggested that, I'm not sure what you are whining about.
Of course theyāre not going to
suggest it, that would be pretty stupid on their part. But thatās what will happen anyway. Theyāll simply call it something else and, even if their motives are entirely sincere, itās what will happen anyway.
Certain teachers -if they think like you - will not be able to resist putting their own spin on the lessons or injecting comments and remarks critical of whites. You know it. I know it.
True, they do a pretty good job all by themselves, Karen.
The video is restricted for me but Iāll bet I can guess what it is: Some white person acting like a dickhead and youāll cite that as an example of how racist all white people are.
This is precisely what Iām talking about and why I donāt want that shit taught to our children.
Oh, and kudos for faithfully employing yet another liberal fad sobriquet: Karen. How original.
You really are the perfect little social justice liberal soldier. You have all their pat words, terms and phrases memorized and know just when to whip them out like you just thought of them yourself. Christ you people make me laugh.
Again, the problem isn't just the racist asshole who spends pages excusing police executions of black children... (You know, like you.) Or the Racist Karen who calls the police on their black neighbors.
The problem is the subtle racism of people who don't even think about it.
The problem here is people who (you know, like you) do nothing BUT think about it.
I kind of love this story about an ex-boss I had. In 2012, we had a major shakeup of our department. During the course of that summer, we had three women leave our group, and we had going-away lunches for all three of them.
A Chinese-American woman in her forties, who had been with the company for nine years.
A black woman in her thirties who had been with the company for two years.
A white intern who spent about three months with us.
Now, the General Manager was too busy to join us for these lunches for two of them. You want to guess which two he skipped and which one he actually made the effort for?
Once again, you cite ONE example of racial bias and use that as an excuse. Itās horseshit.
Hereās one for you. Both my sisters work at Wal-Mart and have for thirty plus years. I also have a niece (the one with the black husband) who worked for them a couple of times.
Here in the deep south, more than half the employees at these particular stores are black. That being the case, most of management is black. In itself, this is not a problem. However, both my sisters and my niece have experienced racism from some and witnessed countless incidents of favoritism towards other blacks.
In the grand scheme of things this might not mean much. But it does mean one thing: blacks are just as capable of racism as whites.
What it does
not mean is that the black community is fundamentally racist.
