Only when somebody rediscovered (took possession anew) of the documents would the clock start anew, for the person in physical possession. Which in this case were Bidens lawyers and aides.

No no...I could have sworn the left was saying, not too long ago, that if Trump tax records were found while they were searching for other documents, that if they found evidence of a crime amongst them, that they were fair game.

Remember, Biden was traveling overseas when his staff was packing documents up.
The difference is aides say that Trump personally packed several of the residence boxes, and didn't let aides see what was in them.
While most of Bidens boxes were packed by his aides, who ironically may not have bothered to let Biden see what was in them.
“The Biden approach was very different in the sense that it looks that it was inadvertent that these documents were at these locations,” Schiff said.
“There was no effort to hold onto them, no effort to conceal them, no effort to obstruct the Justice Department’s investigation.”
