Bishop appointed by Pope Leo XIV calls for migrant court support on Refugee Day

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGNS) - A bishop named by Pope Leo XIV is asking priests in Southern California to stand with migrants by attending immigration court hearings, the Diocese of San Diego said.
Auxiliary Bishop Michael Pham sent a letter to local priests on International Refugee Day, urging them to go to federal court buildings in San Diego on Friday, June 20. He said their presence would offer moral support to migrants appearing before the court.
In addition, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, told fellow bishops that:
“Law enforcement actions aimed at preserving order and ensuring community security are necessary for the common good. However, the current efforts go well beyond those with criminal histories.”
