The posters above are missing the key point: Those J6 Jackasses were NOT trying to overthrow the existing government, the Trump Administration.
Rather, they were violently attempting to KEEP that government in place.
And that "few dozen" has been numbered in the thousands. The FBI (and Sedition Hunters) believe about 3,000 of 'em actually entered into the Capitol building. Some threatened to kill the Speaker of the House and the Vice President. Many clubbed and battled uniformed federal police officers.....sprayed 'em with MACE, kicked, and dragged 'em down, crushed 'em in a door.
Recent reportage informs that as of December 2023, over 1,200 have been arrested, with a few more being arrested every week. It is projected that 1,200 is about half of those who will eventually be arrested.
Reported: "And while the roiling events of Jan. 6 are often lumped together as the attack on the Capitol, the truth is that more than one thing happened that day. Some of the defendants planned their roles in the assault for weeks, communicating with compatriots and showing up with weapons and protective gear. Others erupted in the moment, assaulting officers with their bare fists. Still others were swept up in the flow of the crowd and did little more than walk into — and then out of — the Capitol."
About 170 have been convicted in an actual trial...in front of judge, or a jury. Only two have been acquitted. 710 have plead guilty, 210 of which plead guilty to felony offenses.
720 have been sentenced. 450 have been sentenced to incarceration ranging from a few weeks to 22 years.
About 450 people have been charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement officers at the Capitol, and about 330 have been accused of obstruction of the certification of the election that was taking place inside the building on Jan. 6.
"The Justice Department has been forced to confront this array of behavior and tailor its charges to the details of each individual’s actions.
It has not been an easy or a perfect process, and almost three years after the riot, and well over 700 jail and probation sentences into the investigation, it is most likely nowhere near finished."
