You cannot reasonably transplant a politician from one generation to the next. "JFK would have been a Republican today!" Don't believe it. He would have been campaigning for sex change operations for pre-teens if he had been born in 1963 rather than died then.

Jimmy Carter was an ineffective and weak president. Even Democrats thought so, which is why so many of them got behind Ted Kennedy in 1980. (Who probably would have gotten the nomination if the Iran Hostage Crisis hadn't happened.)

His economy sucked. Double-digit inflation and near double-digit unemployment. His foreign policy was so feckless people openly talked about living in a Soviet-dominated world and whether that would be so bad.

Jimmy was a kind and soft hearted guy. Very well known for helping anyone and everyone. He pissed away his money he rightfully earned by honest work with giving it away. I know people get upset over his political career and rightfully so. He was a puppet used by so many because his savvy about what was really going on was extremely limited...which is why Rosalind was right there in all the meetings. She was his biggest help but she was not much better than he in all of it.

Actually, the D's were really hot to trot for Mr. Peanut. In January 1980, Carter was more than 30 points ahead in the polls against Ronaldus Magnus. The D's threw everything they could at Reagan, calling his policies "voodoo economics" (which alienated Haitian Americans and voters in New Orleans) and even got the RINO branch of the GOP to run a never-Reaganer, John B. Anderson to split the vote.

Didn't work in the long run, but the D's loved Carter.
