Secretly taking more power, is this how democracy is supposed to look? Did soldiers perish in their fight for liberty so that a politician can quietly act like a tyrant whenever he sees it fit to do so?

Just where is the West headed?

SYDNEY (AP) — Scott Morrison said Wednesday that giving himself extra powers when he was Australia’s prime minister was necessary during the coronavirus crisis, as criticism rose the moves were deceptive and undemocratic.

Current Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is seeking an opinion from the solicitor-general on the legality of some of Morrison’s moves.

Many of Morrison’s own colleagues were blindsided by his decision to secretly appoint himself to five ministerial roles, which have only been revealed in recent days. Some have called for him to resign from Parliament, where he is now an opposition lawmaker after losing the general election to Albanese earlier this year.

But Morrison told reporters in Sydney that while he apologized for causing offense to his colleagues, he stood by his actions.

Australia is a constitutional monarchy ... what does "democracy" have to do with this? ...

In the United States, the legislature is the only branch of government that has emergency powers ... and courts have been allowing the legislature to distribute these powers as they will ... if you don't like what's being done during emergencies, then elect better legislators ...

Australia is a republic ... and `Them da People` voted Morrison out-of-office ... why is this not the perfect solution? ...

Yes, he was voted out. Now he must pay a legal price for violations against citizens that would never have seen the light of day if he had won.

What legal price? ... have a court citation? ... is Australia so backwards and unsophisticated that folks there can't remember one year from the next ... here in the USA, we'll still fighting our Civil War ... a free people have long memories ...

Ahh the justifications of a totalitarian.

We told the governor the emergency was over ... I don't think she believes us but there's nothing she can do ... we defunded our police decades ago so there's no one left to enforce the governor's commands if we don't want to follow them ... and we don't ...

Australia is a constitutional monarchy, so they were already totalitarian ...

Look at what so-called democracy around the world has become. It is morphing into socialism ever so subtly until that morphs into communism. All the key players are pre-selected by Chinese puppet masters, we just vote for those.

Australia is a Constitutional Monarchy...the Monarch being the Head of State of Australia.
I love my Constitutional Monarchy, where all the politicians, army, police etc swear allegiance to the Monarch, not themselves. :)
A level of protection for the People.
A Governor-General federally, and a Governor of every state...the Monarch's representatives, to oversee the federal and state Constitutions.

I'm glad that there are still people in the world, in this country who believe in this. If only they knew the true intent of, and what the government actually don't genuinely care about the people of this great land down under.

Democracy began its decay at least 30 years years ago in Australia. With a lot of Chinese investments in a myriad of ventures and also political influence, CCP influence. It has begun morphing into socialism.

Where ... exactly ... do you get the electric power to post this? ... this that capitalism? ...
