"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

So, the flag stands for the REPUBLIC, one nation etc. It does not say Democracy.

Democracy is a Republic with direct vote ... the United States is a Representative Democracy ... we elect local folks who then meet and vote on our behalf ... another form of Republic ... Parliament systems are also Republics de facto ...

All "Republic" means is "of the people" ... as different from "God chooses Kings and Lords" ...

Of course Communists forms of government are also Republics ... remember the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics? ..

Right. Not all republics are demo
cratic.

Interesting how Republicans keep posting these threads trying to convince people that we are a Republic but not a Democracy.

Republicans are fine with the US being a Republic but struggle with the concept of Americans actually voting

California openly declares herself as a Republic on her flag ...

Florida still uses the Spanish Empire's flag ... folks even Hitler fought against by helping Franco ... "seig heil" right there Floridians ...

People’s Republic of China is a Republic
So was the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

Doesn’t mean they are Democracies

You remind me of Reagan when he said that democrats aren't ignorant, just that so much that they know is wrong!

A pure DEMOCRACY is based on the MOB RULE of the People so that the unrestrained MAJORITY rules, and if 51 out of 100 decide to take your house away from you, guess what? MOB RULES, majority rules, and they take your house, that is Democracy.

The word REPUBLIC comes from the Latin RES PUBLICA, which essentially means THE PUBLIC LAW OR THING, where the public is governed by laws protecting the rights of the people, not a mob, so that both strong and weak both have equal representation. Kind of like how a gun makes a small girl equal to a big dude. This way, the public is restrained from a simple mob majority by an agreed upon set of laws governing all. This way, if the mob tries to take your house, they are restrained by the law.

You are welcome.

In the UK, we don't pledge allegiance to anyone, never mind a piece of cloth, unless the odd numpty wants to a King or Queen or whatever. Other than that, the allegiance malarkey is a bizarre concept.

The flag stands for 13 British colonies and 50 states. When Mexico joins, you need to clap another star on somewhere.

If you were a republic, you would hold an election each time a president is killed, stands down etc.. instead of party politics and the party in charge elects a new president themselves, ie. the vice president etc.. Plus, you wouldn't have representative democracy.

So America is a Republic with Representative Democracy.

You know that's not anything official, right? And it was written by a socialist?

just as an FYI he never intended for it to be used to indoctrinate children.

And these laws are God given or something? No, they get passed by assemblies with representatives bein chosen by their constituencies. Right, by a mob.

Nitpick ... Vice President is elected at the same time a s the President ... de jure ... and this is demonstrated by the Electoral College submitting votes for both offices ...

We The People caused the 25th Amendment to come into being ... that's Republicanism ...

You will please notice that the only ones screeching about "pure democracy" are on the right, not the left.

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea comes to mind...

What's in a name, I ask.

North Korea isn't a monarchy ... Them the People vote for their elected Won Shoe Nyt or whatever that guy's name is ... he always wins 100% of the vote ... lucky I guess ... why wouldn't you vote for him? ... that's a GREAT haircut he's got ...
