Masks would be fine if there was a strategy to end the epidemic.
But just the partial lock down of restaurants and bars is not going to end any epidemic, so then the result is an even larger death toll.
The only 2 solutions that do or can work are full quarantine or herd immunity.
It is too late now for full quarantine most likely, so then herd immunity is all we can do.
And doing things to "faltten the curve" like wearing masks, just slow down the infection rate, which makes the epidemic last forever, killing far more people.
Herd immunity could have ended this in March, so would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives.
The way herd immunity works is through local burn out.
The virus runs out of local victims.
Fauci estimated that would require 4 million dead, but he clearly was wrong.
He did not know about the 90% who are not showing up as asymptomatic, so were not counted.
That means the lethality Fauci thought was 1.5% is really 0.15%.
It also means that instead of 70% needing to become immune, only 7% does, because most people already are immune.
Fauci also errored when he did not know the elderly are 40 times more likely to die than the young, so we reduce the death toll by a factor of 40 as well.

If someone has a plan to end the epidemic, and that includes masks, then masks are fine.
But if someone only wants to "flatten the curve", that is murder because it prevents herd immunity, makes the epidemic last longer, and kills far more people.

There is no point in continuing a 10 month old strategy that failed and could never succeed.

If you want to instead do a 2 week of total quarantine, that would be worth it if it totally eliminates the virus.
But that is way more than just masks.
You have to deliver food instead of grocery store lines with a mixture of elderly and infected.
The homeless would need camps like stadiums, schools, etc.

Another choice that if known to work to end it, is herd immunity, where you ask for young volunteers for variolation.
That would also end it in 2 weeks.

But continuing to "flatten the curve" is essentially deliberate murder, and should be prosecuted as such.
