Florida to Shipping Companies: Forget California, We’ll Unload Your Ships

Um, the oil spill was in Southern California; San Francisco is 400 miles north of the spill.

No green source of energy has yet spoiled the waters of our oceans and gulfs.

"Authorities say a ship's anchor may have dragged and ripped the pipeline, which spewed up to 144,000 gallons of oil last week into the Pacific Ocean about 5 miles from shore."
"The investigation continues as authorities clean up the oil. The Unified Command, led by the Coast Guard, said more than 400 crewmembers were in cleanup."

Plenty of idle port infrastructure. I can drive to my nearest harbor and see cranes and berths empty from one end to the other, and blue collar guys homeless because that's all they know how to do. They couldn't become computer programmers. A few million for upgrades and filling in some of the potholes, and happy days are here again.

~~~~~~
Exactly....
A deter through the Panama Canal would not be unreasonable or unduly lengthy to break up the
logjam in west coast ports like Tacoma, Oakland, LA, etc.
Derek Hunter pointed out you could fly port workers from the east coast to California for the time it takes to clear those ships....
but...
The left wing unions on the ports are fighting 24/7 unloading and automation techniques...things other ports around the world already have...
No shit sherlock, that's been on the news for days. The fact that you can't discern S. CA. with the SF Bay Area is pure ignorance, and you tried to spin your foolishness is typical of your dishonesty.
Bring the containers inland a little bit and unload them if you have to. Have them unload at port, and truck them in at night when normal traffic on roads is at a minimum, stage them somewhere and unpack them.
Our entire country is just about all bordering on the ocean, we have so many places they could be unloaded and unpacked there or moved 100 miles inland to be unpacked. There is no logical reason this can't be done.
Honestly I think the government is fucking up the works purely so they can say "ok well the private sector can't handle this and it's effecting the whole country and we're going to create a branch of government for all the countries import and export and we will regulate it and control it for your sake". It's a game to gain control and power.
Where are you going to get the huge gantry style cranes required to offload them from the trucks inland just to load them on other trucks?
You really are not familiar with how this system works, are you?
These ships are too large to go through the Panama Canal so the choices are to take the southern routes, very dangerous, or offload in Columbia and transport across Columbia so the cargo can be reloaded.
Assuming Port of Miami can handle any of these ships, there's only one rail line north and the result would be multi-mile long trans and thousands of trucks line up at the port for loading.
Again, can we not assume that the people who do this for a living have a better grasp of logistics management than some person you met on the internet?
Not true. While you were sleeping, the Panama Canal locks were widened and lengthened.
People are so ignorant about size. The oil from that leak would require 4 full days to fill ONE Olympic-sized swimming pool (660,000 gallons).
Extra 3-4 days sail time vs having your ships sit idle off the California coast for months.
Once again Democrats scare away major businesses.
“Florida is where your success comes in, and our seaports are the solution to ensure the cargo shipping logjam doesn’t become the Grinch that stole Christmas,” said Michael Rubin, President and CEO of the Florida Ports Council. “Why pay to moor off the coast of California, when Florida shipping lanes are open and serving as the gateway for getting goods to America’s market,” Rubin said in a press release.
I wondered how long it would be until we saw something like this.... hilarious.
USMB is awesome isn't it?
The right wing lurches from being experts on the military to being experts on viral diseases, to experts on supply chain logistics to experts on ______________ (whatever the next ginned up crisis will be).
How many ports on the East Coast can accomodate massive container ships some which are over 1000 ft. long on the Atlantic Ocean in winter, the stormiest time of the year? Do those ports have gantry cranes which can unload containers weighing tons or haven't we thought of that yet?
They can operate till then.........and what about Florida? The Gulf freezes over, does it?
40% of US port freight is unloaded in Los Angeles/Long Beach alone.
Businesses have over-ordered.
Warehousing is full.
Florida can't handle what the left coast can.
Yep.....and all of this mess only became a problem after Biden took orifice?
Have you ever thought of the possibility that Biden caused most of this mess on purpose?
The lockdowns were last year and this didn't become a problem....only now it becomes a problem.
