Flood insurance premiums out of control!

Putting the outrageous premiums in our accounts instead of in the government's account means the money will be available for us to use instead of waiting for FEMA to get their shit together. Some Sandy victims are still waiting. It prevents us from being ripped off by yet another government agency. You'd be amazed at how quickly those premiums add up. And it doesn't force those who live nowhere near water to pay for those who do.
If you have flood insurance and have ever been flooded, you would realize they pay out in less than a week...at least that has been my experience and the experience shared with me by others. No insurance is just stupid.

Those of us who live on the creek, set money aside for calamity. No flood, then it's a savings account for us, not FEMA. Flood and we have the money to replace what's lost.

So if you set aside your Flood Insurance Premiums every year, and a Flood takes out your home 5 years after you start, how much you got to replace your home and your belongings on a $150,000 loss?

$3,500......?

This is why I HATED the Insurance Business. Like trying to explain Relativity to monkeys.

Submitted by Olivia Harris on Sun, 04/12/2015 - 17:50 Millions of Americans face higher premium for flood insurance protection after a new law that came into effect this month. The new law allows the insurers to increase the premium by up to 18 percent. As many American families are still struggling to recover from Sandy, they are now starting at higher premium costs for flood insurance. The insurance premium is usually high for families living in areas with high risk of flooding. For the second time in two years, Congress has made changes to the legislation, allowing the insurance providers to increase the premiums. The Congress says that the changes are necessary to save National Flood Insurance Program. The National Flood Insurance Program has been paying more than the premiums it receives from insured homeowners. More than $260 billion in flood-related damages have been recorded between 1980 and 2013, according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) spokesman Rafael Lemaitre. All flood insurance customers will be charged $25 additional surcharge on their annual premium. Homeowners with a ‘secondary home’ such as vacation property will be paying $250 surcharge. The Congress also aims to limit the annual premium at less than $2,500 for an insurance cover of $250,000. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will conduct a detailed study flood insurance affordability. The agency has been asked to submit a report within 18 months. FEMA will also be submitting its report regarding compensating policyholders who can’t afford to pay higher premium, within 36 months.

Clearly, we need to expand the flood insurance pool, by forcing all homeowners to buy flood insurance.

Because Democrats opposed legislation that would have allowed private insurance companies into the pool.

Insurance companies are vultures.

Fine if you have an isolated incident once every 20 years. But the massive insurance company layoffs south of 14th Street in Manhattan after Hurricane Sandy were jaw dropping.

Insurers put their bullshit artists on the phone or else just routed policy owners to an endless "...Press # if " voicemail trail. They sent thousands of jobs to the Philippines and left people without homes, roofs, cars, pets and property to just pound sand.

Huge rip off. Fuck 'em. If EdgeWoe is an insurance agent he is 100% 'ho.

When was flooded and lost everything...the insurance agent was knocking on my door before even had a chance to call. I have never had a negative experience with ANY of my insurance policies. Yeah...you look at a Sandy or a Katrina...there are going to be some issues because of the massiveness of the number of people affected. You sound like you are just a spoiled American who thinks everytthing should happen yesterday.

Actually, it took forever for the insurance companies and FEMA to respond when hurricane Rita blew through the valley, taking houses with her. That's why we all came to the conclusion that if you want something done, do it yourself. Considering how rare that type of flooding is here, none of us opted to pay out the nose for insurance anymore.
And instead we have our money, in our accounts, to use when we need it. Works for us. I resent people being asked to pay for someone else's decision to live near or on water. I remember a story John Stossel did on flood insurance where he admitted that if his house on the beach is destroyed, we get to pay to rebuild it.
Live on water? Bear the consequences of living on the water. People that live on hills should not be under any obligation to pay for my house.

Why would you even ask such a stupid question?. People like you have been saying for almost 8 years how Obama is wanting to put the fucks to people. So why in the hell would you expect him to veto something like this?

On the other hand, your Republicans in Congress have been claiming to be all about protecting and helping the little people and could have easily repealed this legislation by this point in time.

I mean lets face it, they haven't done fucking shit since they got into the power position of controlling both chambers of Congress, so it's not like they didn't have the time.

btw, they got that Omamacare repealed yet?

One problem, the new legislation was passed signed in Mar. 2014, when the commiecrats controlled the senate and was signed into law by your dear leader. But hey, let's not let facts stand in the way of great propaganda lies, right?

So why haven't the Republicans repealed that yet?

Isn't that what they were elected to do?

What is stopping them?

Why should they, 90% of people living along the coasts are commiecrats, you know the ones that love big government, they just want other people to pay for it. Besides if it was such a bad thing why didn't your dear leader get out his pink veto pen?

You do know that premiums are rising nationwide, right?

Since it is your fellow rightwingers who are whining about this premium increase why aren't your elected representatives dealing with your pain?

1. Prove it's rightwingers who are whining.
2. Why aren't your elected representatives dealing with your delusional state.
The bill was sponsored by Robert Mendez D-NJ, vote in the senate 67-32. 31 of the 32 Nays were republicans.
The house passed the bill 306-91, 86 of the 91 Nays were republicans.
3. This doesn't effect me, I'm not stupid enough to live in a flood area so I have no related pain.

From the OP link;

Congress has made changes to the legislation, allowing the insurance providers to increase the premiums. The Congress says that the changes are necessary to save National Flood Insurance Program.

Isn't Congress currently controlled by Republicans? Why are they raising premiums on hard working Americans?

Weren't Republicans supposed to protect hard working Americans from "government overreach"?

Why isn't this thread about Republican government overreach?

The OP is a rightwinger and he pointed out that it will impact you because it is a shared risk even for those who don't live in flood areas.

The whining is coming from your side so you need to address it with your representatives.

Then there are paranoid narcissistic freaks like yourself.

Insurance is a scam. That makes you a scammer. If you're so bright why didn't you go for a real profession?

That is your uneducated and stupid opinion.

You don't have to buy Insurance, you know? You really don't.

Bahahahaaaa.......I guess you don't even own a car, much less a portfolio.

You really are Willy Loman. He hated his job, too. Cry me a river and maybe it will flood.

People who sell insurance are those who have no skills or intelligence to do anything else.
At the very least, vitriolic scumbags who spew hate and nonsense every chance they get. Zero social skills...my guess this guy failed miserable as an agent or was part of a family business that handed him accounts.

Great excuse. These people paid their premiums too, you dumb ass tool. You stupid idiots who file one claim in 15 years and think that's how it works. They bank on idiots like you.
