Five reasons to stop panicking over low birth rates

The reality is that people in developed countries with more rights and freedoms naturally tend to have lower birth rates. This is a good thing.

Because you like the idea that cultures that are "more free" are being outbred by cultures that are less free?

Perhaps the problem is that you are evil, and most people are good.

They are fucked.

Are they? Anyone looking at news reports on TV would come to the same conclusion about us.

I’ve made a few extended visits all around China in the past couple of years and I couldn’t even begin to guess their future.

I know. Like China.
China has an overpopulation crisis, and they've taken steps to reduce fertility rate.

All developed, Western nations have relatively low birth rates. While impoverished, 3rd world countries like Niger have exceedingly high ones:

Are they?

Yes. Their population is crashing and their trading position is based on having low cost labor, and that is something they are rapidly losing.

They are changing that. China is positioning itself as a R&D powerhouse and a major energy supplier to the region.

An Asia dependent on Chinese energy and a world dependent on Chinese technology would be a significant game change.

While this persons logic sounds reasonable, it has zero to do with reality. Of course, he/she would like to make HIS/HER people the most dominant in future years. Fact is, he/she is a phony-e-baloney!

Gov't concerns with low birthrates are all financial...less people, less taxes collected, less money to payoff our HUMONGOUS DEBT, less money to maintain Social Security Retirement till at least the Boomers die off, and less money for them to spend.

Just the opposite, Stewie.
As of August 2025, China's population is estimated to be approximately 1.478 billion people, making it the second most populous country in the world after India. The population has been experiencing a slight decline due to low birth rates and an aging demographic.

China's population is astronomically higher than that of any other country.

So, naturally, they've taken steps to reduce population growth, and even with a decline in birth rates, it's population will remain high for the foreseeable future.

I don't think it will work.

So, in other words, it's a very short-term concern, and isn't thinking particularly far into the future, such as whether or not the global population is sustainable.
