For real value, why not buy a used or refurbished phone from 2018 or earlier? Get one that holds its value (usually iPhones). You buy new ones every two years with a contract anyway and if something happens under warranty, you get a refurbished one.

If you're hard on your phone, then get a one-year warranty or trade in more frequently.

Unless, you're one of those who like to discuss the latest, greatest, and newest technology, I don't think people care what kind of phone you have nowadays.

I buy burner phones, so if something happens to it, then I just get another. Just make sure you download your pics and files regularly like any other phone.
