Firestarter

It finally arrived today as it was in transit for the longest time so I'm going to watch it later tonight!! :D

I must have missed this interview before, I thought it was really sweet. :)

Firestarter 2022 is bad - REALLY bad.

The first question is "why?" Why remake the movie? Because Hollywood is utterly devoid of creativity?

But then we get into the details. Special effects have come a long way since 1984, one would expect this to liven up the story. But this isn't the case. In many ways, the 1984 film had better effects, nothing looks or acts more like fire than, well - fire. The original made clever use, where the remake is CGI bases and looks it.

Zac Efron appears to be bored by the whole affair, shows very little affection or caring for Charlie. Sydney Lemmon does a better job as the mother and is at least believable - Efron is not. Ryan Kiera Armstrong is adequate, but certainly is not Drew Barrymore. Michael Greyeyes plays the major "villain" but is no George C. Scott.

Stephen King is ham-fisted from the start, in the book as well. What could have been an interesting tale of great power in the hands of a child and the impact of that degrades into a typical revenge tale.

What we are left with is a "been there done that" film that fails to live up the the original in every conceivable way, even in the special effects. The original was a high budget film using the top acting and effects talent of the time. This sad remake is a low budget film with B-list actors and cheesy CGI

3.5 out of 10.
