FEMA defends Staten Island aid

•NEW: FEMA chief says search-and-rescue operations taking priority, some fuel being supplied
•Republican and Democratic officials praise FEMA's response to Sandy
•The agency's performance after Hurricane Katrina forced reforms
•It's now "leaning forward" and has closer ties with state and local counterparts

Then there's the looting, lack of shelter, food and water that is patently absent in all parts of the disaster in Staten Island, Queens, and Brooklyn

In as serious of a situation as exists in that area, not eveything can be done immediatly. Priorities have to be established, and those on the end of the short stick on those priorities will obviously not be happy. After this is over, there will be a postmortem on what could have been done better, how supplies and support could have been better positioned. No way to get everything right in a disaster this big. From what the people who are responding at all levels are saying, I would say this effort is going well.

The use of our militarys heavy life capacity to get utility equipment to the east coast is definately a step in the right direction.

I think the whole nations hopes and prayers are with our fellow citizens that have been impacted by this monster storm.

All gas stations should be required to have a standardized generator hookup that the National Guard could utilize in emergencies.

Not surprised that some think they should be ale to fix everything and do it immediately.

Just like some believe Obama should have been able to fix everything - in spite of Rs working so hard to break the country.
