Federal judge delivers huge win for voter ID laws

A federal judge has put a smack down on the Obama Justice Department by upholding sweeping North Carolina voter ID laws in a decision handed down late Monday night. The Justice Department and the North Carolina NAACP argued that the law was designed to suppress minority votes but Judge Thomas D. Schroeder rejected those claims and said the law served a “legitimate state interest” in its effort to “detect and deter fraud.”

The plaintiffs “failed to show that such disparities will have materially adverse effects on the ability of minority voters to cast a ballot and effectively exercise the electoral franchise” as a result of the 2013 state law, Schroeder wrote. That argument was made more difficult after black voter turnout increased in 2014, he wrote.

“There is significant, shameful past discrimination. In North Carolina’s recent history, however, certainly for the last quarter century, there is little official discrimination to consider,” Schroeder wrote.

Why is this such a controversy? If it prevents mulitiple voting then it should be considered a good thing.

The left is under some delusion an ID is too hard to obtain...complete BS, you can't function w/o a valid ID

Neither GOP nor Dems "steal" elections with voter fraud. What a stupid thing to suggest.

Good decision.

Is it some sort of special one that has to be obtained, or can people turn up to vote and show their driving licence or passport?

Depends on the state, some let you use your DL, others issue an ID. I know Indiana will give you an ID free of charge to vote. There is no logical objection to these laws except to commit voter fraud

Noteworthy:

The judge is a Bush43 appointee.

The opinion is over 400 pages long.

I fully support the concept of voter ID, but my personal belief is that the longer an opinion is, the more likely it is total B.S.

It's a feel-good measure to make retards think something is being done to stop or prevent the types of voter fraud which occur. It doesn't do shit to actually stop the kinds of fraud which occur, but you can't tell the retards that.

You will find that voter fraud will continue unabated in North Carolina, because Voter ID can't stop the kind which occur. The retards will ignore this, and will continue to present examples of absentee ballot fraud and poll worker fraud as evidence we need Voter ID. I kid you not.

Voter ID is as effective at stopping the types of voter fraud which occur as making people do ten jumping jacks before being allowed to vote.

"This guy used absentee ballots to vote THREE TIMES!!! I'm telling you, we need to make voters do ten jumping jacks!"
