A short reprieve for now. Other lawsuits to follow.

Hours after a federal judge ruled a ban on high capacity magazines in Oregon can take effect Thursday and put a 30-day hold on the permit requirement to purchase a firearm, a state circuit court judge blocked the entire law from going into effect.

The new law would ban the manufacture, purchase or sale of high capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition. It would also require people take a safety course and pass a background check to get a permit allowing them to purchase a firearm.

It would also close the so-called “Charleston Loophole,” a gap in federal law that allows firearms to be transferred to a person after three days if a background check is not complete. As of Thursday, according to the federal ruling, transfers cannot happen in Oregon until the background check is completed.

“Deprivation of fundamental constitutional rights for any period constitutes irreparable harm,” he continued.

It's hard to argue against that.

It would also require people ~ ~ ~ to get a permit allowing them to purchase a firearm.

Absurd. You can't have a state "permit" allowing oneself to avail themselves of a right!

Think of having to go to the county office each year paying $25 annually for the right to free speech!

Where do these idiots come from?

They need to be able to guns from the crazies, waiting for the courts takes to long and then people get shot.

They need to be able to guns from the crazies,
Huh? What crazies? The government has no ability to look into the future to see who will do something crazy and who won't!

waiting for the courts takes to long and then people get shot.
Ahha. So when in doubt, just trample everyone's rights, make everyone defenseless, so then all of the armed criminals can mug with impunity w/o fear of getting shot? Got it.

Well when you put it that way it does seem kind of stupid. I agree.

“I like taking the guns early, like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida … to go to court would have taken a long time,” Trump said at a meeting with lawmakers on school safety and gun violence. “Take the guns first, go through due process second,” Trump said.

California is my guess. Oregon didn't used to be this way. Now, we've decriminalized all illicit drugs, healthcare is now a "human right", and now they are taking our Second Amendment rights away.

No one is taking mine away. A right not given by the state cannot be taken away by the state.

In Oregon it's even plainer than the US Constitution.

Oregon Constitution Article 1 Section 27: 'The people shall have the right to bear arms for the defence [sic] of themselves, and the State, but the Military shall be kept in strict subordination to the civil power[.]'
