If the remedy is a lateral transfer, I'm sure there are a lot of workers who would prefer that to unemployment, however from all reports, no one has been given an opportunity to do anything other than 1) accept the buyout, 2) resign immediately, or 3) be fired.

Because they are not at-will employees, they can only be fired under certain circumstances and a while a reduction in force is a valid reason for terminating them, it's the way they're going about it that's a huge part of the issue.

They are not following proper lawful procedure for conducting these separations and the way they are treating the workers is particularly egregious. Losing one's livelihood, especially for career professionals, through no fault of your own, is a traumatic and oftentimes life-altering experience. You would think that just about EVERYBODY should understand this due to people being sent home & losing their income due to COVID.

The most disturbing aspect out of all of this is the appearance that Trump, Musk & their supporters are intentionally and with malice I would even say, making this as traumatic and painful as possible, turning it into a spectacle that is then broadcast to the world on X?

Do you understand that what I outlined applies to any & every employer? Maybe not the specifics, but the "termination must follow proper procedures" part?

The other part of this is if Trump would only do things properly he and his administration would not be in court at this particular point in time regarding so many different violations.

No one is saying that the federal workers cannot be fired, just that the termination must be done in accordance with the law. And Trump et al violating the law is what is prompting all of these lawsuits because they are trampling all over the rights of the American people and the federal workers.

I don't even have a problem with them looking for waste that they can get rid of, but the first thing you do is take an inventory of what's there, not take an axe to everything other thing you encounter. Once you have the list, you can rank them as far as priority, importance, essential, etc. and then set in motion whatever is needed in order to eliminate everything - people & processes - that are unneeded.

Throwing people out of their office with 15 minutes notice or not giving them advance 14 or 30 day notice as required is simply asinine and the government is going to have to pay for this abuse of these workers and others.
