On Monday, Republican Reps. Jim Pitts of Waxahachie and Drew Darby of San Angelo filed a bill which would allow the Texas Legislature to withdraw more than half of the state’s Economic Stabilization Fund — the savings account known as the Rainy Day Fund — to cover a $4.3 billion hole projected for the current fiscal year ending Aug. 31.

No easy answers for deep budget cuts in education
Here’s one way Texas legislators could trim the state’s tab for public education by nearly $10 billion : lop off 48 days from the school year.

“We’d win the 5- to 18-year-old vote forever,” quipped House Public Education Committee Chairman Rob Eissler , R-The Woodlands.

Last time I looked. were California to become a seperate nation, it would be among the top ten economies in the world.

Last I heard it was ranked 3rd.

Makes you wonder why it's broke and deeply in debt.

What is our position as a nation?

Most regulations casue small increases.

You can think of it as baby steps or the death of 1000 cuts.

The result is; cost of living will go up. garages will, possibly, have to buy newer testing gear, send people to get trained on it's use, and pass the cost onto the consumer.

Cost of living is a chicken-and-egg issue. States need to bring in their own revenue increases to meet their own increasing expenses from the cost of living.

Where I live, I know 3 places where you can go and ask; "How much for an inspection sticker?" The working poor do what they often feel they have to, just to get by. Even a 1% increase will make it harder on them.

The working poor typically use public transit or share a car among working family members.

Did the people of CA get to vote on this? Or did the State do it for thier own good?

The California Air Resources Board was created by the legislature in 1967. From what I've read, not many people complained about it then. On some days in the late 50s, LA smog was so thick that they had to close the port.

Emission standards for California have always been stricter for over 20 years, cars, boat motors, ATV's, small engines all have to met stricter standards for CA. Right now I'm buying fuel line thats only legal in 49 states because of CA's stricter emission laws, nothing new here.

And what will it be next? A surcharge on breathing? Fines if you dont ride your bike to work? Government credits if you change your roof to a white roof? Criminal charges for having a fire in your own fireplace?

Anything is possible in that bass askwards state. But all this Disney stuff is going to change soon when the mega-quake hits. Seismic activity is off the charts this past 8 or 9 months. Id be finding a new address.

Anyway..........that'll be the end of all these goofball idea's and IM not paying a dime to bail the stupid asses out either.

10K per year wouldn't begin to touch the cost of being green in CA. Hell, 10K wouldn't even cover the difference in your mortgage for a half a year unless you lived in a ritz cracker box.
