The thing you have to understand about FDR, Musolini and Hitler is that they all existed in the same political world. FDR took a mild recession and turned it into a man killing bodies in the ditch soup line depression in eight years. His only interest in Germany was to try to recoup the harsh terms that the WW1 surrender levied on Germany and not much more. Musolini was just another idiot on the political stage in the 30's. The FDR administration was a failed legacy of liberalism on so many levels that the administration's only hope was to gain the support of the citizens by substituting propaganda for news. The FDR administration managed to cajole or threaten or bribe the newspaper giants and the radio so that Americans never knew the truth. Even when it became clear that FDR was an elitist from an elitist family the media encouraged poor and dying Americans to give him just one more term. Democrats ran a virtual corpse for FDR's 4th term and they never apologized for lying to the American public.
