The fact is Rome didnāt and I would argue couldnāt last as a pre-industrial slave and Mediterranean trade-based āRepublic.ā There are many reasons for that.No way of knowing...
But this question of why Republican institutions collapsed around the time of Julius Caesar is very different than why the Western Roman Empire collapsed as it did some 500 years later, despite the Eastern part of the same āChristianā empire surviving for another thousand years or so at Constantinople.
