Throughout the terrible history of human enslavement, Africa is the centerpiece. For nearly a thousand years, Africans have had a penchant for slavery. Without native African collaboration, there would never have been an Atlantic slave trade. We see that even today, those strong ties to the slave trade still exist. Three of the top five countries that still practice slavery East Sudan, Mauritania and Burundi are African countries. Discuss.

It would seem slavery began in Africa, as I recall my history, Portuguese explorers sailing south discovered the African nations and were offered slaves for sale. They were fine with this because it was extra money coming in from excess slaves they had captured from neighboring countries.

Where the problem began was when the Portuguese and Spanish came back and the Africans either had no more slaves to sell or at some point they just started taking their own.

Slavery is a lot older than you imagine

I did not mean to imply that slavery began in Africa, slavery goes back 3 million years to the beginnings of Homo. I just meant that the modern beginnings of slavery as it pertains to the West began with slaves willingly sold to european explorers looking to settle the New World with slaves willingly sold into slavery BY the Africans to the explorers.

Every ancient civilization captured and used slaves. Captive Jews probably built the pyramids, Rome enslaved every nation in Europe, Aztecs enslaved Mayans and the Spanish Conquistadores enslaved the Aztecs. The dirty little secret is that modern slavery is going on before our eyes with old Joe's open borders that lost thousands of unaccompanied minor children.
