Even the "Economist" prints, "Was Israel a Mistake"

My son has subscribed to The Economist for the last two year and we both read and discuss their articles on a weekly basis.
The Economist is NOT pro-Israel.

Of course it is, like all financial publications. You probably read U.S. media which is basically a re-writing of Israeli propaganda so you don't realize when normal international media is pro-Israel. Neutral media like Le Monde, Corriere della Sera, etc. will criticize Israel occasionally.

You don't read The Economist and so you put your foot in your mouth and you're too much of a ***** to admit so.

Of course I read The Economist.

How often?

Even Jews are opposed to Jewish State!

Of course it was a mistake!

It's not a new phenomena!

I fly transatlantic once a month (traveling today actually) Lufthansa and United (Star Alliance) airlines I use always have a copy for me. So, about once a month.

Then you are fully aware that The Economist is at most neutral on Israel being a Jewish state.
They couldn't give a lick if the Muslims took over and the Jews moved elsewhere.
All The Economist cares about is the Product(s) of the PEOPLE, NOT the nation.

It is obvious you have never had the opportunity to read neutral media from mainland Europe.

Links?
Or just plain old stupidy?
Even self-hating Jews send millions to Israel.

If you want links then you are unaware of the full situation and need to read a little more...

I'm not going to do your research for you!

Stupidity?

Depends whether you think that Israel CANNOT exist until the 2nd coming or not!

Do the research for all of us, go ahead, or else just shut up..claim with zero base.

You mean like Germany wanting all non-Germans to leave to increase employment for Germans?
You mean like Italians wanting all non-Italians to leave to increase employment for Italians?
You mean like the French...?
And I agree with these nationalists.

Yes, I actually DO read The Economist so I know ALL about "neutral" European news outlets.
The individual member nations of the European Union are VERY nationalistic.

montelatici, et al,

It is actually a good little "thought piece" and well worth the effort to read. It goes hand in hand and with the The tragedy of the Arabs (A civilisation that used to lead the world is in ruins—and only the locals can rebuild it) in the July 5th 2014 edition of the Economist.

“WAS Israel all a mistake?” asks a lawyer at a debate on the Gazan war in a grand Georgian library in Manchester. None of the 40 or so professionals present says no.....

“Tesco: We’ve axed fruit from Israel,” ran a headline about the British supermarket chain in the Irish Sun on July 27th..."

"Younger Americans are far likelier than older ones to say Israel is more responsible than Hamas for the fighting in Gaza. A recent Gallup poll found a majority of those under 30 thought Israel’s actions in Gaza unjustified"
Israel and the world: Us and them | The Economist
(COMMENT)

I don't think it answers the question: "Was Israel a mistake?" Not even close. But does it really matter? Israel is a reality.

I like the explanation of the three "D's":
  • delegitimisation (the turning of Israel into a pariah state, outside polite international society),
  • demonisation (characterization of Israeli political bodies and policies as evil), and
  • double standards (expecting more of Israel than of other states).

Israel and the world --- Us and them said:
The pummelling of Gaza has cost Israel sympathy not just in Europe, but also among Americans. Israelis are debating how to respond.

It places delegitimisation as one of “three Ds”, along with demonisation and double standards—expecting more of Israel than of other states, especially in the Middle East—which it says constitute a “new anti-Semitism”.

The article itself is full or "what is" type information. But it give one a latent suggestion. It the current crisis in Gaza more of a popularity contest, rather than what is "right" 'vs' "wrong." The Americans and Europeans are trying to determine just how much a threat the Jihadist and Fedayeen pose.

In the last 90 days, emerging jihadists declared several boundaries void, announcing a new "Islamic Caliphate (the political-religious state comprising the Muslim community and the lands and peoples under its dominion) to embrace Iraq and Greater Syria (including Israel-Palestine, Lebanon, Jordan and bits of Turkey) and — in due course — the whole world." (ibid)

You might have noticed how quiet the Arab League has been of late.

Because I prefer to do PROPER research on subjects I care about rather than simply regurgitate the mainstream media BS or docrotins of extremists I find a TRUER balance of thinking, of ideas, both Muslim and Jew, in this case...

Shame that cannot be said of you!

"Zionism is totally contrary to the teachings of traditional Judaism through the words of our Rabbis, Sages, and Holy Scriptures which oppose the creation of a state called Israel."

Go do your own research and LEARN SOMETHING!

What an ironic pity it is that the 'new' poster who urges another to 'go do your own research and LEARN SOMETHING' is evidently unable to research well enough to avoid breaking the rules of this site.

I tried to do research, but couldn't locate 'docrotins' in the dictionaries.... I suspect the poor git meant 'doctrines' of extremists. Which again I note as ironic given the purported "quote".

You forgot the "Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the Gas!" quote in the article, the momentum against Israel is building amongst the general public. What genuinely saddens me is that the innocent Jewish people of Britain and Europe are bearing the brunt of the growing international anger and outrage against the Zionist scum currently occupying Palestine.
Ha-ha-ha-ha! The very much possible case of jews, driven out of EU, coming to Israel will make palistanians, no doubt, very happy. That case wasn't given a thought to either, was it? And "no, you can't!" won't hunt, of course.
Anyway, whatever EU bureaucrats and journos proclaim, the EU is more tired of arab/muslim non-integrating, aggressive, thuggish scummmbags, of course.
And, the last, but no least, there's no occupation outside of the palistanian occupation, which is their occupation. Now, let'em read on occupational hazards up.

When Jordan welcomes back their West Bank Palestinians with open arms and Egypt recognizes the governance of Hamas and abandons the more moderate PAuthority --- you can celebrate about "making progress".. Because the polls I'VE READ indicate that Gazans are OVERWHELMINGLY against the Hamas strategy of lobbing inacurate ordinance into Israel to provoke violence.. Up to 70% disagreed with Hamas on a lot of things. "Elections" are a thing of the past with this group. They have been postponed and ignored because Gazans dont value peaceful revolutions.

And questioning Israels right to life and existence is a marginal view amongst most responsible populations. You could DUMP Israel tomorrow and by next WEEK --- it's guaranteed that the death toll would be HIGHER amongst the warring factions of Islam...

Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt have all washed their hands of the militant Palis demanding Israel's demise. So shame on the leftist University academics here that want to out do the rhetoric...
