Our roads are full of holes because they dont get repaired.

Banks are also starting for furniture and baby stuff.

Critical infrastructure and 'natural monopolies' should be under state control in one or another form. But state-operated companies isn't a panacea by itself. They are usually over-regulated, over--staffed, economically ineffective.
