With bills soaring across the union, Europe thought they could bring down energy prices with a plan to limit the amount of money they pay for LNG from Russia.
Russia said nope, ain't gonna happen.

Serious question- how could that possibly work?
They have no capability to force Russia to sell them the gas & if they won't pay, no way to keep Russia from selling the supplies to 3rd parties.
Both China & India are buying Russian gas, marking it up & reselling it to the EU.
They have not stopped Russia from raking it in while forcing their citizens to pay many times the past rates for fuel & food production.

While you will never go broke underestimating the stupidity of Western leaders, is anyone really this incompetent?
It's almost like they are purposely cutting off food & fuel to their populations as part of a depopulation plan to initiate a reset....

The EU has dropped plans to cap the price it pays for Russian gas.

Energy ministers from the bloc met Friday (September 9) in Brussels. They scrapped plans for the cap after the idea failed to win broad support.

Member states in central and eastern Europe who still get gas from Russia feared retaliation by Moscow. Russian President Vladimir Putin had said he would cut off supplies altogether if a cap was imposed.

I don't know what the EU could have been thinking here when they insisted on contracting with the Russian Federation instead of America for their natural gas needs.

Trump tried to convince them, but their Trump Derangement Syndrome got the best of them.

My guess is that the hoi polloi throughout western Europe isn't going to take this very well, freezing and starving to death isn't going to be popular and I wouldn't be surprised to see the heads of some of western Europe's heads on pikes sooner rather than later.
