It costs about $3 billion a year. Of which the US pays 16.36%

That's $490 million a year.

For that the US gets a huge alliance, lots of shared security. Without NATO the US would probably end up spending MORE money if it wanted to go around the world warring.

The Germans, with a population 1/4th that of the US pays the same.

Most of what you see is how much each country spends on defense. That the US spends loads of money on going around the world doing things completely not related to NATO, like invading Iraq, when other countries have their military in their own country and could respond to a threat much quicker.

All nations in the West are spending more on defense, including Canada and as always the US ( ovetall up 5% , would have been more but Congress held Biden to a meager 1% increase in defense spending this year. . And no nation pays more for NATO than Poland ( 3.9% GNP ) the US is second with ( 3.49 % GNP ).
