Euro-Weenies Make US Conservatives Look Good

I know I take a lot of shots at American conservatives, but I'd rather live in a society where people with whom I disagree are trying to restrict government than in a society of people who think there is not enough government.

The socialists in Europe think that taking a vacation is a "human right."

The European Union has declared travelling a human right, and is launching a scheme to subsidize vacations with taxpayers' dollars for those too poor to afford their own trips.

Antonio Tajani, the European Union commissioner for enterprise and industry, proposed a strategy that could cost European taxpayers hundreds of millions of euros a year, The Times of London reports.

"Travelling for tourism today is a right. The way we spend our holidays is a formidable indicator of our quality of life," Mr. Tajani told a group of ministers at The European Tourism Stakeholders Conference in Madrid on April 15. Mr. Tajani was appointed to his post by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

The plan -- just who gets to enjoy the travel package has yet to be determined -- would see taxpayers footing some of the vacation bill for seniors, youths between the ages of 18 and 25, disabled people, and families facing "difficult social, financial or personal" circumstances. The disabled and elderly can also be accompanied by one other person. The EU and its taxpayers are slated to fund 30% of the cost of these tours, which could range from youth exploring abandoned factories and power plants in Manchester to retirees taking discount trips to Madrid, all in the name of cultural appreciation.

"The commission is literally considering paying people to go on holiday," Mats Persson, of pro-reform think-tank Open Europe, told Britain's News of the World. "In this economic climate, it's astonishing that the EU wants to bribe people with cheap holidays."

Vacationing a human right, EU chief says

And Europeans wonder why they grow slower than America.
Yeah. It took them 700-1000 years to turn into a piece of shit. You idiots did it in less than 100. Gawd Blass Murka !

Vacation is a human right. Why not ? In Chile, that's a country not a pepper.... for you no chillunz B leff behine morons, the boss is required to give you 14 days paid vacation, another week off paid at easter, and an annual aguinaldo, bonus, the equivalent of one months salary, paid by Dec. 10, so you'll have some scratch for Xmess time.

Socialism. Don't you think the idiots at Walmart deserve a bonus for pawning off Chinese junk to you morons ? Walmart can afford it.
So can the little beady eyed, honker nosed wonder who pays slave wages to his help.
So can the jerk that makes a fortune off of you laying block, paving roads, or painting for his fine living.
You live in a trailer. He has a McMansion.

I know. I used to be him !

For the record, most Europeans would not know a blue state from a red state. rdean is, as usual, talking out of his butt.
Most Europeans believe that they can see the Statue of Liberty and Grand Canyon on the same day with only a short drive or train ride. This proves nothing other than they have many wrong conceptions of what America is like. They believe you and YOU don't understand America either while you supposedly live here.

Actually I don't 'supposedly live here'. I live in Europe. I understand both the Europeans and Americans. I am uniquely placed to comment on both. Because, unlike a lot of Americans, I know that England is not just London, the French are charming, kind, decent people in a beautiful country and I am aware of the distances involved in a country the size of the US.

"Free"?

See, that's why I think Europeans are dumb. They pay a fucking fortune to their governments and think stuff is 'free'.

It's a good deal, don't knock it, you pay a bit and you get a lot back

No, it isn't. The 'middle class' get fuck all. But the lazy bastards who won't work get plenty. I'm damned if I can understand why anyone thinks it's a good idea, but it's Europe... they're an odd bunch.

Yes, we get it, you think Europeans are dumb. Thanks a stack:clap2:

Actually, I like the French. The French completely ignore any EU rules they don't like. Respect to them for that. They know how to get their money back and then some from the EU. Respect for that.

I spend quite a lot of time in France. It is an excellent country. Great people. It is the European Union I disagree with - only because hardly anyone in Europe actually voted for it. Certainly in Britain, they didn't vote for this. They voted for a economic partnership - not a 'Union'.

Just think though - they pay their taxes and they get education, health care, social welfare, the military, law enforcement, roads, clean water etc etc - can you imagine how much you'd have to pay for that lot by yourself??? And now some of them get nice holidays!

I love Europe. Europe is the foundation of western civilization. The culture and ideals that came from Europe are responsible for the incredible standards of living we have today. I have traveled extensively on the continent and lived in London (not Europe, I know). I love all the different cultures so close together. Europe is more interesting than America IMHO.

But I'd rather live in America. I came to the conclusion when I was younger that I'd rather live in America and visit Europe than live in Europe and visit America. It is easier to live in America IMHO, at least for me. (If I were poor, I'd probably think differently.) You can make and keep more money, buy more stuff, have a bigger house, a cheaper car, there is more opportunity, etc. So I'd rather live in a place that is easier to live and visit a place that is more interesting. My wife and I talk about living in Europe for at least part of the year when we get older.

I personally like America's culture of freedom and liberty better. There is more of a collectivist mindset in Europe. At times, it feels like there is a moralizing hectoring nanny state, but generally, I'm not going to criticize it because Europe has built a great society that seems to work for most people there.

Well, thank you. I personally am not as fond of France as I am of the EU. I am very proud to be in a solid partnership with our European neighbours, especially Germany and the socialist states up North. If only the UK would enter the Eurozone, I'd be sailing with the Union Jack as we speak:)

I like France. Be respectful and polite, and at least attempt to speak a bit of French and apologize for doing it so badly, and most French are as helpful and hospitable as they come.
