Empathy is rational and caring, as we have seen in the video.
Empathy ~ the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
Nothing irrational about it.

The really old people with a constant terrified look in their eyes break my heart

I could bore you for pages with that sentiment alone occupied

I've seen grown men cry in the field , myself included, trying to keep our 'game face' on while treating them

After enough of it, one really comes away with the impression that we really don't have a lotta empathy for each other

That said, i really do appreciate your optimism
