Electric car markets surge. Setting new record in 2021.

The number of car manufacturers that are either producing EVs or have one ready to release is surprising. Volvo, VW, Mercedes, BMW and more are joining Chevy, Nissan and Tesla in putting out EVs.

Anyone notice they use percentages instead of hard number?

That increase could have been as few as a couple of thousand cars compared to the millions of ICE cars.
Actually I think it's ten million vehicles. Hold on I'll find it.

Actually they sold 1.7 million this year and the total amount is two million on the road in America.

I'll look up total number of electric plug in vehicles are around the world.

As of December 2020, that number had grown a hundred-fold to nearly 1.7 million vehicles. By mid-2021, cumulative plug-in electric vehicle sales had surpassed 2 million.

16 million around the world.

16 million electric cars

All the net growth in global car sales in 2021 came from electric cars. We estimate there are now around 16 million electric cars on the road worldwide, consuming roughly 30 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity per year, the equivalent of all the electricity generated in Ireland.

You see most people see the advantage of the electric car especial as the everyday driver from work and home. For long trips it makes sense right now to use gas engines.

But I have heard stories about two gallons of gas in a generator fully charging an electric vehicle for long trips that would of used twenty gallons to travel that distance.
They lied. Physically impossible. If that were possible hybrids would outclass EVs.

The base model Tesla Model 3 is $42,690.
The base model of any EV might as well be a cross between a stripped down Yugo and an AMC Pacer. Worse, they lack the range and mileage necessary to sell me on owning an EV. I refuse to pay enough money to get me into the fine used, German sport car range for just some tin can shitbox that rattles around with a new bug discovered in it every six months that rides like one of the electric bumper cars at the amusement park.

These days with inflation what it is, not a lot of people can afford 42.6, I know I couldn't. IMHO, they'll run their ICE car/truck until it stops running in many cases or wait as long as they can to replace it, and many of them will get a lower priced ICE for half that much or less or a used model. IOW, it's gonna take a lot longer than you think before EVs have that much of the auto/truck market share. And to tell you the truth, I doubt that EVs will move the needle anyway for addressing GW/CC. Not as long as China, India, and many of the 3rd world countries continue to burn wood, dung, and coal for their energy needs.

I flat out don't believe those numbers.

How do you define a "surge"? If they sold 500 cars the year before and the number is up to 800 it's a tiny portion of the industry but it could be called a "surge" if you were interested in promoting the product.

Now this shocked me.

Volkswagen sold almost a million electric cars plug included.

The Volkswagen Group (which includes Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Skoda, SEAT and more) reports a high growth for its plug-in car sales in 2021, despite the challenging Q4.

I suspect those numbers will be a lot lower this year and maybe for some years after that, due to inflation and slow economy growth. I think there's probably a niche for those cars but I still don't think that many people will buy one when they can get a much cheaper ICE car/truck.

Rich white liberals willing to plunk down $90,000+ for a little tin can shitbox just to assuage climate guilt in front of all their rich white friends are coming out of the woodwork, the question is, once those sales are all gone, what will the other 90% of the people buy?
Would it be ok if they spent $50,000 & up on an F-150, genius?
