Taxes have increased massively and there are people who fall through the cracks. and there will be cracks no matter how much we spend. We live longer. We have the oldest with many having good pensions and social security and savings. The it trickles down less and less and living with comforts varies. Most of these people want to live separate from their children or others. That is a change from other generations. this in itself causes those who have nots as the taxes increased and they dd not get with the program for any reason. And there are reasons.

Anytime the issue comes up for higher pay they tell people they should get a better job.

The vast majority of these are young people or old people working part time and don't necessarily want or need more than minimum wage. Everybody else is usually moving out of minimum wage and earning more of a living wage within a few weeks.

Raising the minimum wage to $15 might get more lazy people to go to work, but it would most hurt those part timers who just work to supplement income or for spending money. And it will invariably drive up inflation so that everybody's buying power is reduced.

Everything has cause and effect and the wise don't go with knee jerk policy that sounds really good, noble, compassionate etc. but will not accomplish what the legislation is intended to accomplish.
