Who is Lutheran or knows Lutherans personally, or this Church?

I think the ELCA is nearer to Catholicism than other Protestant Churches.

Is that so?

My best friend is a Missouri Synod Lutheran and the impression I get from her is different.

I think I will have a conversation with my priest about this -- he's recently gone to a service at an ELCA church here in town.

I'll also have a conversation with my Lutheran friend about this.

Maybe we need to consider that there are two Catholic Churches these days -- Novus Ordo and Traditional. My impression is that ELCA is more like Novus Ordo.

Interesting topic.

Luther, Calvin, Zwingli .... thus was the Reformation Trio in Europe. They had different ideas about the Eucharist etc
.

Do you mean they dropped the doctrine of Real Presence?

As far as I know, there are no Lutherans who take the Real Presence as seriously as we do. My friend thinks she believes in the RP, but to the best of my knowledge, no Lutheran churches treat the Blessed Sacrament as what it actually is. Example, when there are bits and crumbs of the Consecrated Host left after communion is distributed, often the remains are just thrown out.

I was just about to call my friend and have this conversation.

so it is, yes
.

I believe the Missouri Synod also believe, as do Traditional Catholics, that women will never be ordained. My friend cringes when I mention female ordination.

.

as i said, opinions may vary 😊
.

Here is communion at a Novus Ordo Mass, in Germany, ironically.

Any Traditional Catholic I know would walk out of this Mass.

I believe the Missouri Synod Lutherans, like my friend, would see this the same way I do.

Also, I know many priests who celebrate the Novus Ordo Mass with reverence, like my priest. This is not to say that all NO Masses are as ridiculous and irreverent as this one.
