El Salvador has agreed to house violent US criminals and receive deportees of any nationality, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced Monday, in an unprecedented – and legally problematic deal – that has alarmed critics and rights groups.

Rubio unveiled the agreement after meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele, as part of a tour of several Central American countries intended to consolidate regional support for the Trump administration’s immigration policy.

“In an act of extraordinary friendship to our country … (El Salvador) has agreed to the most unprecedented and extraordinary migratory agreement anywhere in the world,” Rubio told reporters Monday.

The country will continue accepting Salvadoran deportees who illegally entered the US, he said. It will also “accept for deportation any illegal alien in the United States who is a criminal from any nationality, be they MS-13 or Tren de Aragua and house them in his jails,” he said – referring to two notorious transnational gangs with members from El Salvador and Venezuela.

In addition, Bukele “has offered to house in his jails dangerous American criminals in custody in our country, including those of US citizenship and legal residents,” Rubio said.

It is unclear whether the US government will take up the offer, however, with questions around the legality of such moves. Any effort by the Trump administration to deport incarcerated US nationals to another country would face significant legal pushback.

I don’t think they should send US citizens, however our prisons and jails are full of illegals that will do their sentence and then be deported so if they are cutting us a deal on housing cost that's a good thing.

No issue with sending the illegals.....That and we have a bunch of chi-coms that will have to go somewhere as China is refusing them reentry.....If they (China) hasn't backed down on that already.

Just the thought of an Salvadorean prison stay should give the illegals pause.

I've participated in several....What's your point?

LOL.....I remember one at the old State Pen in Richmond.

They pulled two men off of each road camp (there were 31 of them back then) to help put it down. Convicts had taken over the main courtyard, I guess there were a couple hundred of them or so.

All the road camp officers rolled out together. The convicts took one look at us and I could hear them say, "those fuckers are crazy, **** this" and they went back to their blocks.

Afterwards it was a simple matter to remove the ring leaders and take them to C-Building where all the isolation cells were....Some of them were still there a couple of years later as there was no Super Max prisons back then.

We might have been there four hours.

You ought to look at the Japanese prison system:

1. Absolute control of and obedience of the prison population.
2. Almost 0% occurrence of violence, unrest or incidents.
3. Inside of the prisons are spotless and neat as a pin, probably cleaner than your home.
4. Very high rehabilitation success rate with very low occurrence of repeat offenders.

Yep, the diametric opposite of our prison system.
