Education Secretary Linda McMahon announces mass layoffs at Dept. of Education - 50% of workforce

Where did I mention unions? Unions had absolutely nothing to do with Common Core.

BTW, the expression is "kow tow". You teacher should have done a better job with you.
well they were why DOE was created. That is the OP.

Is your profession licensed by individual states where you can lose employment for the rest of your lifetime?

Ever hear of a Professional Engineer?

The whole point of the Stamp is to figure out who to sue if things go wrong.

No. The DOE has nothing to do with teacher unions unless they quit and go to work in the oil fields.

The Education Department also has nothing to do with unions. It was developed to prevent states from administering policies of segregation and underfunding or poor and minority schools and discrimination against children with special needs. That is the truth and an indisputable fact, no matter what myths you have heard.

It was created to prevent states from not adopting LA and NYC values in their curriculum.

They other they just sold you and you sucked it up.

well, I wish people like you who get so fking worked up on things people don't know enough of, you come in and show you are as stupid. Jimmy Carter created the DOE as appreciation for Teacher Union support. the receipt

Why Do We Have a Department of Education? Jimmy Carter's Debt to a Teachers Union.

Public education existed well before 1980, but an unpopular President Carter wanted the nation's largest union on his side before an election.

Teacher unions were not why the Department of Energy (DOE) was created.

Guess what?
90 percent of school spending comes from state and local governments.
They hire teachers
Set the curriculum
Buy books and learning materials

Looks like they are not doing a good job

The Us Dept of Education was created in 1979.

Federal funding for K-12 education grew by steps over decades:

Federal support for schools in communities swelled by military bases, factories, and shipyards during WW2
Title 1 funding (1965) for programs to assist low income students
Funding associated with the American Disabilities Act (1975)

The Dept of Education was created to put all of these programs under one roof, to make government more efficient (somebody tell Elon)

The Dept has long been viewed as the agency that thwarted desegregation during the Reagan years. He called for it's abolition along with the Dept of Energy in 1982.

The religious right grew from efforts to provide white only "Christian Academies" for racist families fleeing the public schools, after Brown v Board of Education (1954).

The fundies got political in an attempt to obtain tax exempt status from the Nixon administration. When that failed, they began working overtime to defeat moderate Republicans in Congress and state governments.

Today, they are probably more panicked by bilingual education of immigrants, than by mixed race classrooms.

Their goal is to return to Nixon era block grants, money given to states with no civil rights strings attached.

Must read article from Politico (2014)

So, the NEA is in support of an education department to improve education. Imagine caring about a better education for our children.

Your link says NOTHING about the Union receiving any benefits from Dept of Education

Republicans are threatened by education
Americans are threatened by corrupt Bureaucrats that spend a bloated $298B annually in the name of education and get the following results:

  • America- Bottom ranked in math and reading proficiency among industrialized nations
  • School bullying is up
  • Student on Teacher violence is up

What is DoEd accomplishing with all of that money?

Fix it; don’t axe it. That’s the barbarian method.

What is not good about them?

Do they provide student loans? Yes
Do they provide financial aid to low income districts? yes
Do they provide assistance to special needs students? yes

The Federal Student Loan ($1.7T) can be handled by another Federal agency; one with a financial focus.

$298B is beyond an Egregious Bloat.
