Earth currently experiencing a sixth mass extinction, according to "scientists"

Go read the Wikipedia article or do any sort of Google search you like on the topic. As with all science topics, I give very strong preference to the word of the actual experts. A significant number of scientists in the biology/paleontology/ecology fields believe an extinction is underway, based heavily on the numbers. If you'd read even the first paragraph of the Wikipedia intro I posted, you would have learned that the current extinction rate is 100 to 1,000 times the natural background rate and it's not just cute fuzzy animals.

Your attempt here to grow a set of testicles for your denier-mates is sadly pathetic.

You're the stupid motherfucker who has to have Wikipedia do all your thinking ... all you are is copy/paste things you don't understand ... you need a wet-nurse titty-girl ...

Was that supposed to refute the Wikipedia article or any of the 50 references I provided to the excerpted text? There's more at the site. Why don't you read it all and then tell us what they all got wrong?

Why do you put quote marks around the word "scientists"?
Because more often than not they just shills for whomever commissions the CC studies they churn out.....The simple truth of the matter is that they are paid to support/deny a position they are being paid to study depending on their benefactor.

Sorry but when they have been crying wolf since the 70s I can no longer support their conclusions....You do what you will, I have a life and better things to do with it.

There’s no sign of the fabled “Sixth Wave Of Extinctions”.

The scientists theorizing a sixth mass extinction are biologists, not climate scientists. The causes of the observed extinctions go far beyond climate change. Global warming is but one of many assaults on the planet's biota. The two largest effects are predation and loss of habitat (from human development)

Do you actually have ANY evidence of that? Any?

Well, gosh, we'll miss you.

Waiting for some evidence that biologists are being paid to claim there's a sixth mass extinction underway. Perhaps it would help if I dug up some names for you to check out. These articles actually express a range of views on the topic.

Robert H. Cowie, Philippe Bouchet, Benoît Fontaine

Daan P. van Uhm: Willem Pompe Institute, Utrecht University, Utrecht, The Netherlands: dev@null
Ann Gibbons: Science | AAAS

There are many more articles if you need more.

Why? I don't need to believe that to believe their claim is out of context.

What is a mass extinction?

First, we need to be clear on what we mean by ‘mass extinction’. Extinctions are a normal part of evolution: they occur naturally and periodically over time. There’s a natural background rate to the timing and frequency of extinctions: 10% of species are lost every million years; 30% every 10 million years; and 65% every 100 million years. It would be wrong to assume that species going extinct is out of line with what we would expect. Evolution occurs through the balance of extinction – the end of species – and speciation – the creation of new ones.

Extinctions occur periodically at what we would call the ‘background rate’. We can therefore identify periods of history when extinctions were happening much faster than this background rate – this would tell us that there was an additional environmental or ecological pressure creating more extinctions than we would expect.

But mass extinctions are defined as periods with much higher extinction rates than normal. They are defined by both magnitude and rate. Magnitude is the percentage of species that are lost. Rate is how quickly this happens. These metrics are inevitably linked, but we need both to qualify as a mass extinction.

In a mass extinction at least 75% of species go extinct within a relatively (by geological standard) short period of time. Typically less than two million years.

Still waiting for some evidence to support this claim by the OP.

Does it matter if they are shills or dupes? Isn't the end result the same?

Still wiating for some evidence to support the OP's [1srelluc's] claim that scientists discussing the possibility of a sixth mass extinction are "shills for whomever commissions the CC slltudies they churn out" and that they are "paid to support/deny a position they are being paid to study depending on their benefactor"

I think the only conclusion we can come to here is that 2srelluc HAS no evidence supporting the charges he's made.

More like.....Earth is experiencing a mass stupidity event in believing in that horse shit.. ;)

The biggest problem the planet faces right now...by far....is the fact that we are surrounded by rubes. The suckers for the matrix narrative.

The next one they will be bamboozled about is the coming "climate emergency".

The good news is, it will bring us much closer to triggering a total shitshow...imminent btw...and long overdue.

Millions of Americans gonna be losing all their stuff...sadly.

Actually it is true.

Humans are polluting the hell out of the planet and are causing a tremendous stress on the biosphere.

That is the consequence of having a population of eight billion.

However, humans are not effecting the climate. Absolutely no credible proof of that.

Actually, it isn't true. More species are being discovered than are going extinct, and by a lot.
