You don't "accidentally" execute a hip drop tackle when you pull the runner down from behind, drop your hips and land on the runner's legs. It's a 15 yard penalty because it's even more dangerous than the "horse collar" tackle. That play ended Cam Skattabo's great rookie season and probably the Giant's hopes as well. The Eagles have a history of dirty play and this is just another example. Skattabo is cocky and no doubt the Eagles defense decided they were going to teach the rookie a lesson.

Surprised if he dont play next week in a wheelchair.

Zack Braun has promised to pay all of Skattabo's medical bills. We'll see if he does but at least he is holding himself accountable even if the NFL doesn't.

I wouldnt be surprised if he catches a fine in the next couple days

Hip drop tackle is banned. It is a 15 yd penalty. Was it called? If not, where are the refs?

Not called, but Braun could be in big trouble. It was his second hip drop tackle he was fined for the first one. Just a dirty, dangerous play.

Dislocated ankle is season ending, probable career ending? He will never be as fast again. Now he will be a rehab project forever.

Hip drop was explained. Tackle from behind ars around waist. Fall to ground on back of legs pulling down the offense guy. Falling on the back of ankles in some as cases?

New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo suffered a severe leg injury during a Week 8 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on October 26, 2025, after being tackled by Eagles linebacker Zack Baun in what appeared to be an illegal hip-drop tackle.
The play, which caused Skattebo's right leg to fold unnaturally and his foot to turn sideways, led to him being carted off the field and is expected to end his 2025 season.
The NFL is likely to impose a significant fine on Baun, who has a prior history of being penalized for similar tackles, and the incident has drawn widespread criticism from fans and analysts for the lack of a penalty.

Multiple injuries, not just the ankle. But let's hope Cam makes a full recovery. I've been a fan since he was destroying defenses running for ASU.

I hate this kind of tackle.

When we played tackle as a kid, I had a neighbor who would do this. Only he'd wrap your waist and spread his legs and literally swing underneath you rolling up on your ankles. If you felt him you pushed your legs out (leaned back so that he'd run the risk haveing come down on his face with your ass. It seemed to stop it.

But even then you could see where it could be pretty dangerous.

The more obviouls examples show guys rolling their torsos underneath people. The most blatant being when Tony Pollard was hurt against the 49ers.

It is being postulated that this is a natural evolution as defensive players are less likely to drive through a player because of the potential targeting call associated with it. I can see that. But they will just have to learn.

The way I see it, this kind of thing can't be allowed. Period.
