AUSTIN, Texas — The small town of Eagle Pass has been inundated by more than 17,000 immigrants who illegally crossed the U.S.-Mexico border and were apprehended by law enforcement in the last 10 days, the Washington Examiner has learned.

Eagle Pass Mayor Rolando Salinas shared the latest arrest figures with the Washington Examiner hours after he went on Facebook to lament being ignored and "abandoned" by the Biden administration as the equivalent of more than half of the 28,000-person town's population has flooded over the border in a matter of days.

That would be nice, except for the fact that these people are gaming the system. They are claiming they need asylum, and according to our laws we must investigate each and every claim. It takes months sometimes years, and in the meantime, we are stuck with them because of these insane rules.

I think the problem is that the Biden admin is allowing people who come here, surrender to the border patrol, and claim amnesty to stay here ... pending their applications being processed, and most are denied because they are economic refugees.

We could take their applications, give them a receipt, and put them back over the border. Possibly that would end people applying with no hope of being approved.

We could take their applications, give them a receipt, and put them back over the border. Possibly that would end people applying with no hope of being approved.

Or we can just shoot few, and prosecute employers who hire them. Nothing like jail time to get corporate execs and contractors to stop hiring them.
