We can hope but it wasn’t just an impression, if you are renting or trying to buy a new home, the economy is bad and inflation was worse than for homeowners. My house payment did not go up with inflation other than the value of the home. If you were renting or trying to buy a new home, then the economy is terrible. Rents went up, some as much as 50%, to own a home the income you needed to purchase a home before inflation was $75,000 per year, now it is $120,000 a year. So it isn’t just perception, it is a reality to many. First time buyers for this year is the lowest in many decades. To many the American dream is gone. Democrats refused to validate this and claimed the economy was great, it was and still is depending on who you are. The last two Democratic presidents were involved in the greatest two transfers in wealth to the rich in history. Many Americans realized this and many more felt it.

I think that is a reasonable conclusion for many Democrats but most the data says it is not correct. The economy and the perception of a poor economy is the reason Republicans won, it has been that way since before FDR and it continues to be. If Trump doesn’t improve the economy or the impression of a good economy, Republicans will be gone next cycle.

The economy and the perception of a “poor economy” was promoted by billionaire owned right wing media ad nauseum.

They did the same thing when Obama was in office calling his recovery the weakest in US history, and claiming his job creation numbers were fake.

The moment Trump was sworn in, it was the greatest economy in US history and it was all Trump’s doing. While it was the greatest economic recovery in US history, Obama and Biden achieved it, not Trump.

The US economy utterly crashed and burned during the pandemic. Trade wars and tariffs undermined your manufacturing costing over 200,000 manufacturing jobs. All of Obama’s gains in manufacturing since 2009 were wiped out by Trumps tariffs.

Farm bankruptcies set new records every year, and it was small family owned farms which suffered most. The big corporate farms got billions in government aid.

Multiple European nations colonized Africa but only the British were in India. Certainly the mishmash of competing and often warring European nations setting up colonies across Africa was no different than the differing and warring African tribes preceded them.

As a Christian I am against mixing Christianity with politics as it hurts and wrecks the Christian message which is simply helping the least fortunate.

Jesus refused to get involved in politics saying His Kingdom is not of this world.

If my Church tried to tell me who to vote for, I’d find a better church. I go to church for my faith and my spiritual needs. Politics destroys both.
