The US economy utterly crashed and burned during the pandemic. Trade wars and tariffs undermined your manufacturing costing over 200,000 manufacturing jobs. All of Obama’s gains in manufacturing since 2009 were wiped out by Trumps tariffs.

Farm bankruptcies set new records every year, and it was small family owned farms which suffered most. The big corporate farms got billions in government aid.

Actually jobs were coming back to America until April 2020 when many companies shut down, all over the world and in there were year over year increases in America over Obama. So the tariffs and trade wars were working and in fact they did so well that Biden left them all in place, where Biden made it worse was when Biden on day, ended Trump’s executive orders on immigration and we had the highest influx of illegal immigrants in US history.

As far as the economy, Obama and Trump’s economies were not as good as under Clinton. In June of 2020 the manufacturing jobs were starting to comeback, another reason Biden left the tariffs in place.

Now, Canada and Mexico are going to need to help keep illegals from crossing into this country or they will face tariffs, hopefully that will encourage them not to be so lax.

Obama had 8 years to clean up and rebuild. Biden had 4 and a lot of his programs haven’t been in place long enough to achieve maximum impact.

The tariffs being threatened are because Trump’s rewrite of NAFTA has been a colossal failure for the USA.

Your trade deficit with Canada went from $11 billion in 2016 to over $90 billion under Trump’s deal. The trade deficit with Mexico also went up but not by as much.

I have frequently said I’d like Trump to negotiate our next trade deal with the USA. Unfortunately, Trudeau is unlikely to be around to get us a great deal.
