Dr. Paul Farmer, Florida philanthropist who devoted his life to fighting deadly epidemics mostly in Africa, has died. He was 62

In 2000, The New Yorker wrote about Farmer’s mission to heal the world: “The fact that the poor are dying of illnesses for which effective treatments exist is, like many global facts of life, unacceptable to Farmer.”
