LOL! Nope..at that time..the Republicans were the left-wing party..progressives. The Abolitionist movement was not really a political movement..although it had its political elements, to be sure. If anything, it was a religious movement first..and a grassroots cultural movement.
The Constitution codified slavery..and 'saving' it had no bearing at all on Republican positions in 1860.
Most of the fight was to preserve the Union...ending slavery was some people's goals..and it made for a great populist slogan.
Dude, no matter how hard your ilk tries..there is no way any intelligent person is going to conflate the Republican and Democrat parties of 1860 and the parties as they are now..no one. You can howl until you're blue, it just is not true. Like trying to make Nazi's into Socialists and Fascists into left-wingers...it's a non-starter.
Anyone who presents shit like that seriously loses all intellectual credibility and shows themselves to be brainless tools.
Oh yeah, and in 1860..by our lights..everyone was a Racist..everyone...even the abolitionists. Abe Lincoln, along with every almost White man living at the time...thought that Blacks were inferior. Some thought that it was possible to 'uplift' Black folk..some thought it was a waste of time. About the only real difference was that the abolitionists conceded the Black man's intrinsic humanity..the South didn't even allow that.
