Furious? Far from it. Do I still believe that gays serving openly in the military is a bad Idea? Yes I do.
Not only a bad idea but the worst thing the military has done since I started with the military 40 years ago.

And no, I do not hate gays, many of you know that I have a gay step son.

But I am also a realist, I saw this coming in 93 when they started DADT.

So, I truly hope that there are no problems with this new status in the military. But there will be, we all know it. And most of you who have served know that most "incidents" will not be heard about because the military will keep them hushed up.

Best of luck to those who are serving today. My salute and carry on.

They claimed morale would be destroyed if they allowed blacks to serve along side whites

They claimed unit readiness and cohesion would fall if they expanded the roles of women

The military is tough. They, like armies around the world have, will get over having to serve with a homosexual

I believe that you, personally, are in favor of gays having the right to serve in the military. I do not believe that that makes you a conservative; it manifestly (on this issue) makes you a liberal. Or a libertarian, because this is a social issue and on social issues libertarians and liberals generally agree.

The thread title is a little over the top; probably most Republicans aren't "furious" about this, but they certainly don't approve. There are probably a few exceptions. If there are any Log Cabin Reps still around, they probably approve. If you're a Republican, you're another that approves. But most Republicans, and ALL social conservatives, disapprove. Your own opinion doesn't disprove that, it only places you outside that category.

It's funny ever since I began to earn a paycheck (at the age of twelve) I've given to charities. At times to the dismay of my conservative family who told me 'charity starts at home.' When my husband and I began building our lives together and I insisted on increasing my payroll deduction to donate, he was not happy. But I would not waiver even though we literally were struggling.

The perception that libs don't like private charities is quite astounding as I have given unto others while denying myself indulgences.
