Donald Trump is considering pulling US troops from Germany and redeploying them to Eastern Europe, The Telegraph can reveal.

Mr Trump is weighing up withdrawing some 35,000 active personnel out of Germany in a move that would further sour US-Europe relations.

The US president, who has repeatedly warned that Europe must commit more to its defensive capabilities, is becoming increasingly frustrated that the continent is “pushing for war”, sources close to the administration said.

Around 160,000 active-duty personnel are stationed outside of the United States, a vast quantity of whom are in Germany.

“Trump is angry that they [Europe] appear to be pushing for war,” a source close to the White House said.

Brian Hughes, a US national security spokesman, said: “While no specific announcement is imminent, the US military is always considering the redeployment of troops around the world to best address current threats to our interests.”

I have zero faith in Europe in general. There is a reason our European ancestors relocated to the "new world". I fully agree with U about the country of Poland, which has a decently effective military meaning they are a "responsible" society. Ramstein AFB is certainly an asset militarily wise both tactically as well as strategically. Unfortunately the current shape of Germany's Luftwaffe sounds to be functionally bankrupt or @ least on the brink of being functionally bankrupt. If it was not for the U.S. presence @ Ramstein AFB then Ramstein would most likely be an amusement park.

I am a big supporter of the country of Armenia & it's folks. Armenia became the FIRST nation/state on our planet earth to adopt Christianity(Eastern Christian) in the 3rd century. The Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church is the oldest Christian church on our planet. The Armenians survived persecutions but lost 1.5 million of their fellow Armenians in the 1st holocaust during WW1 under the reign of the Ottoman empire. THere has been no real justification for our presence in Germany for decades, but "we" have been there so long that we are a substantial part of the economy in the communities where our bases are situated. Furthermore, we have soldiers who have been there for years, and are totally integrated, including having local spouses and children.

So it's complicated. It is entirely appropriate that Trump is thinking about it.

This Russiaphobia has to end and getting bases out of Europe is important to it.
Face it. Russia cannot even digest a non-NATO state of Ukraine. Yes it can nibble a bit of Donbas (ethnic Russian)
and annex Crimea (even more ethnic Russian) but Ukraine's JAVELIN stopped Russia's armor dead in its tracks

And while drone warfare is an integral part of the Ukr war, you can't just use an air force to conquer territory.
Russia has more manpower then Ukraine, and wins that war of attrition, but it IMPOSSIBLE for it to move on any NATO state.

Mr Trump is said to be considering repositioning some US troops in Europe so they are focused around Nato countries that have upped their defence spending to meet GDP targets.

There is only 2 NATO airbase in Hungary. how can it possible accomodate all the AF stationed in Germany?

You have bases there so that Russia and China cannot sneak attack Europe and overwhelm them.

America has the most advanced military in the world and the E.U needs to pay 3-4% a year IMO, however, a sneak attack on Europe or Taiwan/Japan/S Korea for that matter, would be bad for business for the U.S.
