The two aren't comparable. Nixon lost the support of his own Party. OMB has almost complete control of the GOP for now. Note: Speaker election.
The two aren't even close in comparison. Not even a little bit.
It was more a struggle for power between an Imperial Presidency and the rest of government with Nixon. With OMB, it's just scum of the Earth dimocrap FILTH being dimocrap FILTH.
Plus, and here's the most important part...... People don't trust the DISGUSTING FILTH of the Media anymore. That should be obvious. They poured everything they had, every bit of the power they have left into getting the Drunken Jamaican elected and they failed; miserably. Back in 1975, The American People didn't recognize The DISGUSTING FILTH for what they were/are yet.
Now, we all know.
dimocrap scum are done. Finished. Kaput. Gone. They have -- Nothing. Just a bunch of geriatrics
In 1972 Nixon won the popular vote by a landslide. In 2024 Trump defeated Kamala Harris by a small margin in the popular vote.
Nixon was vulnerable to the Watergate Scandal because of the inflationary recession of 1974. If it had not been for that I doubt many Americans would have cared about the Watergate break in.
Trump appeals to two very different constituencies. There is the traditional constituency of rich Republicans For these the main issue is taxes. They want tax cuts for themselves. They fear tax increases for themselves. They would like fewer regulations.
Then there is the constituency of whites without marketable job skills who have been left behind by the economic changes of the twenty first century. To an extent they have been left behind by directions the U.S. economy has taken since the inflationary recession of 1974. Since that recession there have been more rewards at the top of our economy, but there have been fewer of these rewards. The U.S. economy has become less forgiving of bad decisions, bad luck, and failure.
These whites long for the economy of the 1950's, when a white man with only a high school degree could buy a house in the suburbs, and support a wife who did not need to work and who could afford to stay home and raise the children.
The division among Trump's supporters has been exposed by the conflict over H1B Visas and H2B visas. There are more problems than that. Trump won because of the inflation of the Biden administration. Trump's tariffs are likely to cause greater inflation. Elon Musk's efforts to cut nearly one third of the federal budget will harm those who in the capitalist market place need the government to keep its thumb on their side of the scale.
To be successful Trump needs to provide lower income whites and lower middle income whites with better economic numbers. I do not think he will be able to do that. His failure to do so will cause him to be vulnerable the way Nixon was.
